Dear Friends,

The Sisterhood Annual Dinner in May was magnificent. The support Sisterhood received for this was remarkable—almost 150 people came to show their appreciation for what our honoree, AnnBeth Cohen, has done for our shul. Shoshana Fayon attended to every detail, and the result was an elegant dinner with all the bells and whistles. Every year I wonder how we can outdo what we did the previous year, and Shoshana certainly did so this year!

Sisterhood is now planning activities for the 2010-2011 year. We invite you to share your ideas and suggestions for events. This past year we had a wide variety of activities, including book discussions, a blood drive and health fair, and all of our annual events such as the Shabbat Dinner in the Sukkah and Hanukkah latke dinner and meeting. We try to keep costs down and many events are “free.” I put the word “free” in quotes because it is through your generous donations and support of our annual dinner that we have the funds to provide activities at no cost.

My week-long trip to Israel was wonderful and I met twenty-five of my cousins. I stayed in Bet Yizhk, a moshav (farming community) near Natanya and visited other cousins on a farm in Sde Yaacov, near Haifa, Metar (about 40 km from Beer Sheba), and in Jerusalem. Highlights included saying Tehilim at the Wall with my father’s first cousin Leah, and singing Hatikva at the Shavuous song and dance recital that was put on by the school-aged cousins. My dream to go to Eretz Yisrael came true!

Have you joined Sisterhood yet?

The Sisterhood of Anshe Sholom invites all Jewish women to renew their membership or to become a member. All are welcome. Membership in the congregation is not required.

Our activities include:

  • Educational and social programs throughout the year

  • Programs to celebrate the Jewish holidays

  • Welcome of new members to the synagogue

  • Sponsorship of Shabbos dinner in the sukkah

Dues are $25 a year or $125 for a lifetime membership

Interested in Joining the Sisterhood Board?

We are looking for members to join our all-volunteer board and who are willing to help with Sisterhood and our shul. We meet once a month on Tuesdays (alternating meeting times between 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm). No experience is needed, just a desire to contribute your time and energy to make a difference in our congregation and in the Jewish community. We have events and activities planned throughout the year with special events for the holidays. Anyone interested is invited to sit in on our board meetings.
