Congregation Anshe Sholom Sisterhood

Helle Everyone,

As we approach the winter months, when the days are short and cold, we are so happy to belong to the Sisterhood of Anshe Sholom and feel the warmth of our dear friends. We are a strong group of women, who learn, play, laugh, and work together to make Anshe Sholom a thriving synagogue. I am very dedicated to Anshe Sholom, and I am sure you will be too, once you get to know us and work with us. You will be welcomed with open arms. Just call Constance Levi, 914-834-1963, and she will provide you with all of the information that you need to join.

On December 13 the Sisterhood Board met, and then we had our annual Chanukah General Meeting. We had a lovely turnout and everyone enjoyed sufganiyot, traditional jelly donuts. It was a very joyous meeting.

We are in the midst of planning some wonderful activities for the coming months. Our member, Bryan Herstic, a wonderful comedian, singer, and musician, has graciously offered to perform a musical show for us one Sunday afternoon. Stay tuned for the date and time.

We want to wish a hearty mazel tov to Shoshana Fayon on the birth of her great-granddaughter Mica. Best wishes to the entire family. Sisterhood would also like to wish a very hearty mazel tov to Ariel Rosenzveig on passing the New York bar exam. Yasher koach and good luck in your future endeavors.

On a sad note, I am sorry to report that two of our Sisterhood members have lost loved ones in the past month. Scotty Vogel lost her beloved husband, Mark Vogel. Randi Weingarten lost her father-in-law, Marvin Weingarten. She sent us a lovely note thanking us for the delicious food we sent to her house at that difficult time.

Looking ahead to June, Sisterhood will sponsor a kiddush for our dear Rabbi Ely and Chani Rosenzveig on June 23. We want to send them off to Israel with our best wishes for all good things. Please save the date and come and celebrate this occasion with us. I would like to wish everyone a healthy and happy winter season. We are looking forward to having many enjoyable events in 2012.

Have you joined Sisterhood yet?

The Sisterhood of Anshe Sholom invites all Jewish women to renew their membership or to become a member. All are welcome. Membership in the congregation is not required.

Our activities include:

Educational and social programs throughout the year
Programs to celebrate the Jewish holidays
Welcome of new members to the synagogue
Sponsorship of Shabbos dinner in the sukkah

Dues are $25 a year or $125 for a lifetime membership

Interested in Joining the Sisterhood Board?

We are looking for members to join our all-volunteer board and who are willing to help with Sisterhood and our shul. We meet once a month on Tuesdays (alternating meeting times between 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm). No experience is needed, just a desire to contribute your time and energy to make a difference in our congregation and in the Jewish community. We have events and activities planned throughout the year with special events for the holidays. Anyone interested is invited to sit in on our board meetings.
