Est. 1896 — A Modern Orthodox community in New Rochelle, New York
Congregation Anshe Sholom has served the Jewish community of New Rochelle and southern Westchester for over a century. Founded in 1896 by a small group of immigrants, our congregation has grown into a vibrant Modern Orthodox shul that welcomes everyone — longtime members, newcomers exploring Jewish life, and visitors just passing through.
We honor tradition while embracing the modern world. Our services are warm and participatory, our learning is serious but approachable, and our community is genuinely, unmistakably friendly. If you've ever walked in and felt like a stranger at a synagogue, we think you'll find us different.
Rabbi Evan Hoffman is the Spiritual Leader of Congregation Anshe Sholom in New Rochelle, NY. He previously served as Assistant Rabbi of Park East Synagogue in Manhattan.
A graduate of Yeshiva College (summa cum laude), he received semikhah from RIETS, earned an M.A. in Modern Jewish History from the Bernard Revel Graduate School, and did advanced graduate research in American Jewish History.
For many years he has taught adult education courses in Jewish Theology and Jewish History at synagogues around the metro area. Rabbi Hoffman is the author of a widely disseminated weekly essay series titled "Thoughts on the Parashah."
Rabbi Hoffman was raised in Great Neck, NY and is an avid fan of the New York Mets. He and his wife, Sari, are the proud parents of Eliyahu and Elana.
Our lay leadership works alongside the rabbi to guide the shul's direction and care for its members.
From the sweetness of honey on Rosh Hashanah to the warmth of the Sukkah dinner, from the joy of Mishloach Manot on Purim to the beauty of a Shavuot luncheon, the Anshe Sholom Sisterhood brings the rhythm of Jewish life into our community.
Through acts of chesed like bikur cholim and preparing shiva meals, and through countless moments of quiet generosity and care, the Sisterhood is truly the heart of our Shul — nurturing connection, tradition, and community every step of the way.
